10 Great Personal Goals To Set This Year

By Emerald Strachan

Setting goals you will actually achieve is the most realistic way to achieving what you want. I originally chose a different topic than the one I have but unfortunately it was taken, so I decided to put combine my original idea with the new topic idea. Ten great realistic goals to set this year!

Any one can set goals but not every one can execute them and achieve them. Many of us get exited to start executing our goals but life or some other obstacle get in the way and we drop it. Quite a few of us have a dozen unfinished personal projects laying around just waiting for attention. How do you get rid of this procrastination in order to achieve your goals?

I have a simple strategy, it's so simple that you are going to ask, "Why didn't I think of this myself?"

The ten goals actually include the strategy of achieving them! Set goals that are of the same theme! Okay that may sound strange and even silly. But haven't you ever done something and it turned out so well that you want to expand on it? Yes you have. It's like making cupcakes, then you go on to make bigger cakes then before you know it people are asking for the recipes and you are now opening a pastry shop! Well maybe not, but most business start out that way.

Here are ten goals to achieve in 2012.

These were my goals for 2010 - 2011

My goals were set from 2010 and I did not achieve the first until the middle of the year so they were completed in 2011 and that is okay. The idea is to achieve the goal and not give up.

  1. Find a job that paid over a certain amount of monthly salary - Achieved august 2010
  2. Replace my crashed computer - achieved September 2010
  3. Get a new refrigerator - achieved December 2010
  4. Refurbish kitchen - did that January 2011
  5. Find a way to make money online - joined HP February 2011
  6. Find ways to make money online faster - started blogging February 2011
  7. Start writing more of what I love in order to make money - did that and is still doing that
  8. Refurbish bathroom - did that July 2011
  9. Find a way to really make a monthly income online - am doing that now with Elance and Freelancer. Making much more than I asked for.
  10. Make HP my primary source of income - still working on that

So basically all my goals were realized. Some goals are long term investments like HP while some are material stuff. The year before that was all about my personal well being.

10 great personal goals to achieve this year!

I usually set goals rather than make resolutions and my goals usually start out with something simple and very personal. One goal usually lead to another. These are just life changing tips that I have used in the past to help me get from down to up and feeling great even when things don't go my way. You can change them around if you like.

  1. Make a goals list similar to this one or just use mine!
  2. Make every day count. Don't take it for granted, live every day like it was your last.
  3. Stop thinking about what's gone and think about tomorrow. When you do this you are looking ahead. Every time you think of yesterday consciously break your thought and fantasize about tomorrow.
  4. When things go wrong see the positive in it. Take a moment to think about what went wrong and think about the possibilities that maybe something better is ahead.
  5. Take a day away from every thing: no work, no home chores, no cell phone unless it's to chat with a friend. You get dressed that day in your best or favorite day clothes, go out to breakfast, do something you have always wanted to do, then have lunch, go to the spa and treat yourself. Let it be your secret. No regrets so don't think how much it will cost just do and love every minute of it. It's your day, do want you want, even if it means not taking a shower or brushing your teeth!
  6. Strip naked and look in the mirror at least twice per week until you love every inch of yourself and want to kiss every inch of yourself.
  7. Take a nature walk at least once per week.
  8. Face one of your fears, you must do this until you conquer it.
  9. Do something really crazy that you are sure someone will find odd. Nothing illegal. Something crazy like screaming. Haven't you ever felt like just screaming for fun? It's usually your body telly you that you have pent up tension that needs to be released and it usually works.
  10. Make sure you have done all the things on this list!

I think this idea is brilliant! Goal setting for the new year versus resolutions may be the missing link for getting things of vital nature accomplished.

That reference to not doing anything illegal in your #9 is an important one. I would add also you should try to avoid doing anything that infringes on people's rights. If you live in an important building, for example, having a wild all night party isn't a great idea if you want to stay on good terms with your neighbours. People who live in houses have more leeway as long as it isn't a regular occurance.

That's great Flora. I guess I was thinking of how to personally feel better about oneself. Kind of a selfish get better thing. But the list can be as long as one wants it to be and treating others as we would have them treat us is a great step towards self betterment.

Hello, Emerald, I agree, goals are much better than resolutions. Resolutions imply some arduous, drawn out tasks. Goals imply management of tasks. Well written.

Exactly Cyndi. I stop with the resolution years ago when I realized that non of them were ever met.

Great hub, I am a big believer in goal setting and then putting plans that I know I can implement to achieve those goals. Its always a good reminder to read pieces like this to stay focused, keeping the eye on the prize in whatever it is you are trying to achieve.

Thanks CZCZCZ, I really appreciate the comment. I prefer goals to resolutions because goals have a working plan. Usually resolutions are made on a whim.

Hi Emrald Strachan

This is great to read your hub. Just to comment a little about it. That is, I think it have been even better to set the goals of life. And then set yearly goal to achieve them. And in each coming year you must be closer to goas of life than before. What do you say about it..?

Hi Ahmed.b, as I also mentioned in the hub that my ideas are just guides and you can set your own goals, so yes, if you want to set bigger goals then go ahead. I found that when I was depressed and tried to get better small goal on developing my well-being was was got me through. After I got better then I set long term goals.

Thank yo so much for reading and commenting.
